Tesla Model Y insurance cost calculator
Adjust the factors carriers actually rate on and watch the estimate move. It starts from the published national average of $3,836 a year and applies typical rating multipliers. Directional, not a quote, but it shows which levers are worth pulling before you start calling carriers.
How each factor moves your premium
State. The largest single factor after your record. State regulation, litigation environment, weather exposure and uninsured driver rates all vary enormously. In published rate data the cheapest state (Hawaii, $1,992) and the most expensive (Louisiana, $6,247) are more than $4,255 a year apart.
Age. Drivers under 25 pay substantially more because claim frequency per mile is higher in that group. The curve flattens between 30 and 64 and ticks back up after 70.
Driving record. A single at-fault accident typically raises a premium 40 to 50 percent for three to five years. A DUI can more than double it and can make some carriers decline outright.
Coverage and deductible. Dropping to state minimums looks dramatic in the estimate and is almost always a mistake on a vehicle this expensive to repair. Raising your collision deductible is the safer version of the same idea.
Mileage. Below about 7,500 miles a year, look at pay-per-mile products specifically. They restructure the rate rather than discounting it. More ways to lower your premium.
Calculator FAQ
How accurate is this calculator?
It is a directional model, not a quote engine. It starts from the published national average and applies typical rating multipliers to show how each factor moves the number. The starting figure is sourced; the multipliers are conventional industry rules of thumb, not carrier filings. Only a carrier can tell you your actual price.
Why does age affect my rate so much?
Claim frequency by age is one of the most statistically stable relationships in auto insurance. Drivers under 25 file substantially more claims per mile driven, and rating plans reflect that in most states.
Does credit really affect my premium?
In most states, yes, through a credit-based insurance score. California, Hawaii, Massachusetts and Michigan restrict or prohibit it. This calculator does not model credit.
